Is Les Miles considering major changes to the LSU offensive playbook?

How weird would it be to see LSU spread things out and sling the ball around the field all day?

According to a report by The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger, that’s not as far-fetched of an idea as it may have seemed even a few weeks ago.

After nearly losing his job while utilizing what would be best classified as a “ground-and-pound” offensive approach in 2015, Les Miles may be considering some serious change in offensive philosophy for the 2016 season.

The Tigers play their final game of the season against Texas Tech on Tuesday, and while Dellenger reports that Miles expects the offensive gameplan to look similar to what fans have come to expect from the 2015 version of the team, he also says Miles has been hinting at changes following the bowl game.

Miles explained the process he expects to begin following the bowl game:

“When we get done, there will be a number of places that we will have a natural tendency to go look and see. We’re running some spread. Certainly we have the opportunity to be multiple that way,” he said. “We want to see how those teams running it best are having success.”

While Miles has not revealed which teams that he’d like to visit, Dellenger wonders if former Texas A&M OC Kliff Kingsbury’s Red Raiders, who Miles will face in the bowl game, won’t be a perfect team to start chatting with once the dust has settled.

Considering Miles will return Leonard Fournette next season, it would seem unwise to move too far away from the idea of giving his star running back the football regularly.

“There’s some things you do and you do really well, and you don’t want to lose that,” Miles said. “There’s a bunch of ways to improve. It’s something you work on on a daily basis. Many times its execution. It’s not even scheme. We’ll have to see.”
