DJ Lagway is not enjoying his first trip to Death Valley.
The sophomore Florida quarterback was picked off twice in the first half of Saturday night’s game against No. 3 LSU. With just over 8 minutes to play in the third quarter, Lagway threw his third interception on a third-and-18 play.
To add insult to injury, LSU’s Dashawn Spears returned it 58 yards for a pick-6 that put LSU up 20-10.
All 3 of Lagway’s interceptions in the game came on third down.
His first happened in the first quarter, on a third-and-10 from inside LSU territory. Florida bowed up after the turnover and punched LSU back off the field after 3 plays and just 1 yard gained.
Lagway’s second interception came with 28 seconds remaining in the first half. AJ Haulcy snagged a third-and-7 pass attempt and set up a field goal that gave LSU a 13-10 lead.
Entering Saturday night’s game, LSU had just 1 defensive takeaway through its first 2 outings — an interception off Clemson’s Cade Klubnik in the opener.
Lagway had only 1 interception in his first 2 games of the season. He threw 9 picks as a freshman last year.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
