LSU reportedly set to elevate ex-Missouri staffer to on-field coaching role
LSU’s defensive coaching staff is nearly complete, according to a report.
For the final vacant position, LSU is expected to elevate Missouri analyst Jake Olsen to an on-field role where he will coach safeties. That’s according to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz. The report notes that Olsen departed Missouri alongside defensive coordinator Blake Baker a couple of weeks ago, but his exact role was still to-be-determined.
Barring a surprise, this promotion will complete LSU’s defensive coaching staff overhaul from this offseason. The Tigers parted ways with several assistants from their 2023 staff and have now hired Baker, Kevin Peoples, Bo Davis, Corey Raymond and Olsen to fill those positions.

Olsen is familiar with LSU. He worked for the Tigers before joining Missouri as a defensive analyst back in April of 2022.

This will be Olsen’s first on-field coaching role at a FBS program. He previously served as special teams coordinator at Northwestern State and has also worked at Valley City State (North Dakota), which is his alma mater.
LSU has not yet announced the hire. The Tigers are hoping to take a big step forward on the defensive side of the ball in 2024.
