Several areas across the nation are under a burn ban due to the excessive heat and lack of rain that has made for a dangerous environment — and it’s affected college football.
LSU, known for its massive tailgates and cajun food, has restricted all tailgating activities because of the active burn ban in Baton Rouge.
“Due to the unprecedented fire conditions across Louisiana, a state-wide burn ban remains in effect for this weekend’s LSU Football home opener,” LSU said in a statement Wednesday, per The Advocate. “As a result, fans are asked to comply with the state fire marshal’s order and to tailgate safely with no open flames Saturday.”
Outdoor cooking isn’t banned as long as the cooking does not involve an open flame.
But, “if your cooking creates a fire that the fire department has to respond to, you will get a citation,” the state Fire Marshal’s Office said in a statement. “It doesn’t matter what your fuel source is (propane, pellets, charcoal, etc.). Again, if it involves a flame at any point, don’t do it.”
LSU is set to play its first home game of the season against Grambling State at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in Tiger Stadium. Fans across Louisiana have been encouraged to cook offsite from the games in the state.
