Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier led LSU to a tremendous start in the Citrus Bowl against Purdue. The Tigers led 21-0 with 13:03 remaining in the first half.
Daniels started 9-for-11 passing for 119 yards and a touchdown, and Nussmeier was 4-for-6 passing for 39 yards, as the Tigers scored touchdowns on 3 of their first 4 drives to begin the game.
Mason Taylor was on the receiving end of a pass from Daniels where he caught the pass at about he 20-yard line and scampered into the end zone as it weaved through defenders. Taylor had several plays where he looked like a future early-round NFL draft pick, as he had 4 catches for 83 yards, including the TD.
As impressive as the quarterbacks were to start the game, the LSU defense smothered Purdue to the tune of just 2 first downs by midway into the second quarter. Purdue was 1-for-5 on third down, and also had 4 penalties for 30 yards.
