LSU suffered a loss in the wake of firing Will Wade, and it came in the form of a decommitment from 6-foot-8 shooting forward Devin Ree, the No. 82 player in the class of 2022.

Ree is a 6-8, 185-pound prospect from Terry, Mississippi and originally committed to LSU in December of 2020. He is rated the No. 1 player from the state of Mississippi and No. 22 shooting forward for the class of 2022, according to 247Sports. He signed with LSU in November.

Along with LSU, Ree held a reported 11 offers, including Auburn, Georgia, Jackson State and Memphis.

“I was 100% committed to LSU and their staff,” Ree wrote on social media. “But with all the uncertainty lingering around their program I’m saddened to announce I will be reopening my recruitment. My family and I look forward to finding a new home for my collegiate career.”

Here’s some of the news release when Ree signed with LSU:

He will play the 2021-22 season at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia where he will play for Coach Steve Smith.

“We welcome Devin Ree to the LSU Basketball program,” said Head Coach Will Wade. “Devin is a long, athletic shooter. He has unlimited range and his height is able to get his shot off in any situation. Devin will be a game changer for us on offense.”

Ree was all-state last season at Terry High, averaging 23.2 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

Ree also played for We All Can Go this past summer on the adidas Gauntlet circuit. He was also part of the Virginia Gold team that won the recent 2021 GEICO Top Flight Invitational championship including a 20 point, 5-of-5 effort from outside the arc against Prolific Prep in the semifinals.
