The Lane Kiffin era in Baton Rouge will get started in 2026, but before the newly hired coach officially takes over, the 2025 LSU squad still has some business to take care of.
Despite not achieving its stated preseason goal of reaching the College Football Playoff, LSU will still have a chance to add another postseason victory to its already robust football history when it takes on Houston in the Kinder’s Texas Bowl.
This will be only the 4th time these schools have ever met on the field, with the last matchup having occurred in 2000. LSU owns a 2-1 all-time advantage in the series, and it is also worth noting that this will be the first time these programs have met in a place other than Baton Rouge.
The Bayou Bengals will obviously be looking to carry some positive momentum into next season while Kiffin evaluates the talent currently on the roster, but the Cougars also have plenty at stake.
The Kinder’s Texas Bowl is set for a 9:15 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday, Dec. 27, from Houston, with the game being broadcast by ESPN. This will also be the second straight year the Tigers have competed in this game, as they claimed a 44-31 win over Baylor last season.
