LSU WR Jonathan Giles trying to overcome early-season slump with unique strategy
Jonathan Giles is employing an unorthodox strategy to try to shake off his struggles through the first month of the season.
LSU’s junior receiver will don a different jersey against Florida on Saturday, swapping his No. 7 for No. 12, according to a tweet from Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated.
Random nugget here from Dallas: #LSU WR Jonathan Giles, the transfer from Texas Tech, plans to wear No. 12 today and not No. 7. He’s trying to shake out of a slump against the #Gators.

Giles was a breakout receiver for Texas Tech in 2016 before seeking a transfer and ultimately landing with the Tigers. Slated to be a key weapon in LSU’s more pass-friendly offense this year, Giles has just four receptions for 20 yards through the first five games.
The Gators sport the nation’s second-best passing defense, so a simple number change may not be enough for Giles to get back to old form. We’ll see if the swap does anything for him when the No. 5 Tigers (5-0, 2-0 SEC) take on No. 22 Florida (4-1, 2-1) at 3:30 p.m. ET in The Swamp.
