Damone Clark, a top linebacker in this year’s NFL Draft class, will reportedly miss his rookie season because of surgery.
Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported that Clark will undergo spinal fusion surgery after an MRI at the NFL Scouting Combine showed a herniated disc. He’s expected to make a full recovery.
Clark, an inside linebacker, led LSU with 137 tackles last season while the next closest teammate in tackles, Micah Baskerville, had 83. Clark also made 15.5 tackles for a loss, an interception and 3 pass breakups.
ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. had high praise for Clark.
“Damone Clark had 136 tackles, he was getting sacks, good in coverage. He had tremendous coverage going from Point A to Point B in a blink. I’ve thought about late one for him. … Damone Clark was really flying around. He could run for the clock really well. He should test out well athletically. When you put that work in conjunction with 15.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, a couple forced fumbles, an interception … don’t be shocked if he’s not in the late-first-round range.”
Former LSU LB Damone Clark is undergoing spinal fusion surgery today after an MRI at the combine revealed a herniated disk, per sources.
One of the top linebackers in this year’s NFL Draft, Clark most likely will miss his rookie season, but is expected to make a full recovery.
