Alabama’s Mac Jones and Florida’s Kyle Trask are each shining at quarterback in the SEC this season. Both quarterbacks are expected to be selected early in the 2021 NFL Draft.
While both quarterbacks are proving to be extremely talented, ESPN draft guru Todd McShay is giving the upper hand to Jones.
McShay explained during a recent appearance on ESPN’s College Football Live why he’s siding with Jones.
“I’m gonna go with Mac Jones and Kyle Trask has been unbelievable and I love the way that he’s been feeding his receivers and Kyle Pitts,” McShay said, per Sam Marsdale of 247Sports. “But I just think Mac Jones has been phenomenal. When you come into the biggest rivalry, arguably, in college football and throw two pick-sixes, bounce back and then put your team in position to win that game or at least tie it with a field goal against Auburn last year. And then you bounce back in the bowl game and win against Michigan and then come into this season and refuse to lose the job even though there was a true freshman that came in that was supposed to win the job. Steve Sarkisian is so impressed with the way he’s worked and owned this position and the leadership that he’s brought. And I’m so impressed with how he’s so patient inside the pocket and poised and distributing the ball, even when he lost Jaylen Waddle, one of the most explosive players in all of the country.”
Jones has guided No. 1 Alabama to an undefeated record through six games. Jones has amassed 2,196 yards, 16 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions.
Under Trask, No. 6 Florida is currently 4-1. Trask has 1,815 yards and is tied for first nationally in touchdown passes (22), while throwing just 3 interceptions.
With both teams at the top of their divisions, a potential SEC title game featuring Jones vs. Trask would be absolutely scintillating.
