Mac Jones is set to get a new offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots, and a report from Mass Live sheds some light on how the former Alabama quarterback feels about the move.

Jones is trying to rebound from an underachieving season that saw the Patriots’ offense ranked in the bottom half of the league in points per game and red-zone touchdowns. Jones as a rookie in 2021 shined in an offense coordinated by former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. However, the Patriots — and Jones — struggled under play-caller Matt Patricia and that was a main factor that led to Bill Belichick’s third sub.-500 finish with the Patriots.

According to one source close to Jones, the Patriots quarterback is “very” excited about O’Brien coming to New England.

Another source close to the Patriots quarterback told MassLive that Jones “is looking forward to working with coach O’Brien.” They added that since the Patriots and Alabama have a similar culture and offensive approach, it should help Jones with the transition of working with O’Brien.

The source said that for Jones, it’ll be “nice to start a new working relationship with someone that you already have had the opportunity to work with.”
