Mac Jones is the unquestioned starting quarterback for the New England Patriots heading into the 2022 season.
But, for fans hoping to see the former Alabama star quarterback in action on Thursday night in the Patriots’ preseason opener against the New York Giants, there’s some bad news.
Per Patriots insider Mike Reiss, Jones and most of the Patriots’ starters aren’t expected to play on Thursday night in Foxboro:
QB Mac Jones and most Patriots starters aren't expected to play in tonight's preseason opener, sources tell me and @DanGrazianoESPN.
Joint practices against the Panthers next week, then the Raiders the following week.

As Reiss mentions, the Patriots will host joint practices with the Carolina Panthers next week before an Aug. 19 preseason matchup vs. the Panthers in Foxboro. The following week, the Patriots will practice with the Las Vegas Raiders before heading out West for their final preseason game on Aug. 25.
Will we see Jones in either of those games? That remains to be seen.
