Believe it or not, North Carolina has decided it is in its best interest to rehire Mack Brown.

News of this deal being in place first reported by Inside Carolina, the 247Sports North Carolina site. On Sunday, ESPN College Football analyst Tom Luginbill reported Brown would be Carolina’s top target in the search to replace Larry Fedora. According to Inside Carolina, an agreement is already in place for Brown to return to Chapel Hill.

No details of Brown’s North Carolina contract have been released at this time.

The ESPN college football analyst has been out of the game, at least from a coaching perspective, for several years after being dismissed by Texas following the 2013 season. While the move is certainly interesting, Brown did rack up a gaudy 244-122-1 record during his coaching career and won a BCS National Championship in Austin in 2005.

Before coaching at Texas, Brown resurrected the North Carolina football program after being hired 1988. He remained in Chapel Hill until 1997 before leaving for Texas.
