Marcel Reed took over for Conner Weigman as Texas A&M’s quarterback midway through the third quarter and has produced some immediate results.

Weigman started the game with just 64 passing yards on 18 attempts before getting pulled in favor of Reed. It was his worst performance since completing just 12-of-30 passes in a season-opening loss to Notre Dame way back in Week 1.

The switch worked, as Texas A&M seized momentum almost as soon as Reed took over under center. Reed led a scoring drive to make it 17-14 LSU following a Garrett Nussmeier interception with just over 8 minutes left in the third quarter.

Here’s video of Reed’s first score:

Then, after a botched field goal attempt by LSU, Reed led the Aggies down the field for another TD at the end of a 7-play, 60-yard drive. That touchdown gave A&M its first lead of the game.

After another Nussmeier INT, Reed once again led a short scoring drive to bolster the Aggies’ lead. Reed’s third rushing touchdown of the game gave the Aggies a 28-17 lead with 14:07 remaining in the 4th quarter.

This game represents Reed’s first significant action since Sept. 28. He did carry the ball one time in A&M’s blowout win over Mizzou a couple of weeks ago, but Weigman has largely resumed his role as A&M’s starting quarterback — until tonight.

Texas A&M and LSU are battling for an outright hold on first place in the SEC standings going into the month of November.
