Marco Rubio suggests Tebow statue for US Capitol

The state of Florida needs a new statue, and the Sunshine State’s junior senator has a suggestion.

Sen. Marco Rubio, a UF alumnus, is known for finding ways to work his Florida fandom into politics. As a Republican presidential candidate, Rubio said he would like the Secret Service codename “Gator” and used a radio interview in Iowa to take shots at arch-rival Florida State.

While his suggestion of Tebow might not be 100 percent serious, it is true that Floridians are being asked to suggest a new statue to represent the state at U.S. Capitol’s National Statuary Hall, replacing the statue of Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith, which was voted to be removed last year. The Florida Department of State has launched a survey on the matter.

Tebow has recently been linked to an open seat in the Florida state legislature.
