Marcus Freeman confirms season-ending injury for star DB Benjamin Morrison
Marcus Freeman announced Monday that star cornerback Benjamin Morrison would miss the rest of the season with a hip injury.
It’s the latest injury blow in a long line of them for the Fighting Irish in 2024. The junior appeared destined for All-American status this fall but now needs surgery that might bring his Notre Dame career to an end if he heads to the NFL early.
It was a shocking announcement made my Freeman, Notre Dame’s 3rd-year head coach, during Monday’s weekly press conference, but unfortunately for the 12th-ranked Fighting Irish it was just the latest piece of bad injury news to hit the team.
BREAKING: Benjamin Morrison (hip) out for the season, per Marcus Freeman. Surgery required.

Freeman said of Morrison’s injury “it’s a blow for our team. … You feel terrible for the kid.”
Morrison entered 2024 with 9 career interceptions, including 6 in 2022 and 3 last season. He didn’t have an interception so far this year, but that might be due to opposing quarterbacks staying away from Morrison’s side of the field.
Morrison had 20 tackles, 14 of them solo, so far this season.
Sure, Morrison could come back for his senior year in 2025, but he most likely will grade out very high with NFL scouts and move on to the next level. That means Saturday’s victory over Stanford could very likely be Morrison’s final game at Notre Dame.
