One of the former star players at South Carolina who lobbied for Shane Beamer to be hired is former star RB Marcus Lattimore, who was among the in-state talent who played for the Gamecocks when Beamer was an assistant a decade ago.
Since Beamer was hired, Lattimore has detailed the reasons why he’s fired up for the future.
“There’s many things that I could say about Shane Beamer,” Lattimore said in a video posted by the team’s Twitter account. “His enthusiasm as a person, his passion for the game, his attention to detail, when it comes to those little things. But all those things are miniscule when it comes to what he’s going to bring as far as culture to our program.”
It goes beyond football in Lattimore’s eyes.
“He believes in developing men,” Lattimore said. “He looks at them and sees a human being. Because of that, he makes you want to run through a brick wall for him, and I’m just excited for the future. Let’s go, let’s go Cocks, let’s go baby!”
Lattimore has stayed connected to the program since he was a player. Until about a year ago, he was South Carolina’s Director of Player Development for two seasons. He was replaced by Connor Shaw.
