Coach Ed Orgeron and athletic director Joe Alleva have both shared their thoughts on the “Neck” chant that LSU fans brought back during last Saturday’s game against Georgia.

Neither wants to hear the vulgar language from the student section.

One former Tiger agrees, but doesn’t see the chant going away anytime soon, as long as the song continues to get played by the marching band.

Marcus Spears, now an analyst for SEC Network, recently shared his thoughts on the situation with TMZ.

“It’s terrible, man. It’s terrible,” Spears told TMZ. “It’s a legitimate gripe, but at the same time, it’s a part of the atmosphere. It’s a part of the gameday thing. …

“If you could somehow convince [the students] to clean it up, that would be great. But we know what ‘Neck’ is about, ‘Neck’ is about getting the team motivated.”

Spears played at LSU from 2001-04.

It will be interesting to see if the Tigers’ marching band continues to play the song when the team returns home to play Alabama on Nov. 3.
