No. 18 Miami is looking to bounce back from last weekend’s road loss at SMU. Miami is hosting Syracuse on Saturday and things are getting testy at Hard Rock Stadium.
Miami blew a second half lead at Syracuse in last year’s regular season finale to be eliminated from the ACC Championship Game and the long-time rivals definitely have bad blood. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and Syracuse head coach Fran Brown had a heated exchange during the game on Saturday.
It got to the point where the officials nearly had to intercede to prevent any further escalation.
Syracuse’s defense played well in the first half, but Miami took a 14-0 lead into the halftime break.
Miami quarterback Carson Beck connected with Malachi Toney on a 14-yard score with 2:13 left in the first half. Beck also tossed a 61-yard score to Keelan Marion with 9:57 to go in the third quarter. Keionte Scott had a 38-yard pick-6 off a pass from Syracuse quarterback Rickie Collins with 1:50 remaining in the second quarter.
The pressure is on the 55-year-old Cristobal as Miami has never reached the College Football Playoff. Cristobal has not guided Miami to a bowl victory since taking over 2022.
