Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes are having a season that fans have been dreaming of for a long time. The Hurricanes are currently 6-0, and ranked No.6 in the country heading into their matchup at Louisville this weekend.

Like many of the best coaches in college football, Cristobal spent time coaching with Nick Saban. While making an appearance on the This is Football podcast with Kevin Clark, the Miami coach talked about the importance of the entire staff competing.

“If he felt a tinge of complacency, God help you,” Cristobal said. “He set up competitive opportunities between coaches for them to fight for opportunities and I thought that was brilliant. You can’t expect your players to compete if your coaches.”

Cristobal coached at Alabama from 2013-2016, where he emerged as 1 of the best recruiters in all of college football. They finished No. 1 recruiting in the 247Sports Composite ranking in each of his 4 seasons in Tuscaloosa.

The Hurricanes have picked up his competitive spirit, as shown in the 39-38 win against California where they came back from down 23 points.

Miami and Louisville will kick off at noon ET and the game will be aired on ABC.
