Mark Ingram discusses what it’s like sharing carries with rookie sensation Alvin Kamara

In college, Mark Ingram’s Alabama Crimson Tide were big rivals with the school Alvin Kamara would eventually attend — Tennessee.
However, the ex-Crimson Tide runner and the ex-Volunteer are now sharing carries in the New Orleans Saints’ backfield, and have immediately become the NFL’s top running-back tandem.
Ingram, a seven-year veteran, said working with the rookie has been challenging at times, but said splitting carries is what’s helping the Saints succeed, so he’s happy with the role they both play (via ESPN.com):
“I’ve never really embraced it. Ever,” Ingram said. “I always want the ball. I always want to carry the ball over and over again. But just what he’s been able to do, you gotta give him the ball. And just how we’ve been feeding off each other, how we’ve been able to work together to help our team win — that’s what I’m all about.”
Ingram also admitted that having Kamara play so well is helping him stay at the top of his game, too:
“When you have someone chomping at your heels like that, you can’t help but be on top of your game every single day.”
Ingram will have no choice but to share the workload with Kamara moving forward, as Kamara is likely to run away with the NFL Rookie of the Year award.
He’s a dynamic player and he feeds well off of Ingram, so the Saints will want to keep both of them happy in the coming years.
