Mark Sears was a key piece for Alabama and started all 37 games for Nate Oats this past season. On Saturday, he announced his future plans on social media.
In his note, Sears announced he plans to test the NBA Draft waters. However, Sears will keep his remaining eligibility in the process, so the door to a return with the Crimson Tide is still open.
To Ohio and Alabama, thank you for affording me the opportunity to do what I love! Being on each team has allowed me to grow and continue to develop my skills to become the player that I am today. Coach Oats, thank you for giving me the gift of returning home to play at Alabama! To the fans, thank you for all of the support you’ve given me and my teammates.
After much consideration and deliberation, I have decided to declare for the 2023 NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility.

Sears began his career at Ohio before transferring to Oats’ program. In his first season with the Tide, Sears finished second on the team with 12.5 points per game. He also averaged 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 35% from 3-point range.
Sears joins a growing list of Alabama players looking to test the NBA waters that includes Brandon Miller, Noah Clowney, Charles Bediako and Jahvon Quinerly. Jaden Bradley — a former 5-star prospect and 22-game starter — has also entered the transfer portal.
