Kentucky has been a team on the rise, but the Wildcats have still yet to take that next step in order to consistently be one of the best teams in the Southeastern Conference.

One fan recently called in to the “UK HealthCare Mark Stoops Show” to ask why Kentucky had not passed the hump yet to being able to beat the “Georgias and the Alabamas of the world.”

When Stoops responded, his answer was simple:

“If you think this is easy, step up.”

It served as a solid reminder of the nature and high level of play not only in college football, but especially at the SEC level. It’s difficult to compete in the SEC regardless of the year, and even the mightiest of teams can fall at any given time. Alabama’s struggles against Texas earlier this season serve as an example.

Check out Stoops’ response to the question below:

The Wildcats most recently fell in their first loss of the 2023 college football season, beaten 51-13 by the No. 1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. In a game that served as something of a measuring stick for previously unbeaten Kentucky, it was also reflective of just how far the program still is from being one of the country’s best teams.

Kentucky will look to get back to the right side of the win column Saturday as it faces Missouri.
