Mark Stoops was almost speechless when talking about Georgia tight end Brock Bowers, but soon gave the junior overwhelming praise.
“He’s an absolute freak in the most complimentary way,” Stoops said.
The No. 20 Wildcats are set to take on the top-ranked Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Saturday on ESPN. Both teams are 5-0 to start out the season.
Stoops, who believes Bowers is one of Georgia’s big-time play-makers, called him an “incredible player.”
“He’s selfless and just a complete player,” Stoops said. “He plays well without the football, he plays well with the football.”
In 5 games so far this season for the Bulldogs, Bowers has 30 receptions for 413 yards and 3 touchdowns. In Georgia’s last 2 games, Bowers has more than 100 receiving yards in each game and a total of 17 catches and three TDs.
Stoops continued with his praise of the junior tight end by saying he’s “a team guy.”
“You can tell that’s a great guy to work around,” Stoops said. “He steps up when they need him to. He’s a very unique player.”
Stoops noted when he was part of the Arizona Wildcats coaching staff from 2004 to 2009, former Arizona tight end and legendary NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski was on the team.
Despite the uniqueness that Stoops witnessed from Gronk during his seasons with Arizona, Stoops added that Bowers is someone who he “hasn’t seen before.”
“I see a good player that’s getting better more and more every game,” Stoops said.
