Mark Stoops praises Lynn Bowden Jr. after monster performance against Louisville

Kentucky junior Lynn Bowden Jr. has been a central figure in the Wildcats’ play to close out the regular season. His versatility and mobility were showcased extensively during the team’s final game against Louisville on Saturday, where he ran for 284 yards and 4 touchdowns—his 2nd 200-yard output of the season—and crested the 1,200-yard mark. After a 3-4 start, Kentucky won 4 of its last 5 to assure itself of a postseason berth.
On Monday, Wildcats coach Mark Stoops expressed regret for not having Bowden at quarterback much earlier in the season.
“It worked so well that we looked pretty stupid not having him under center more,” Stoops said on his weekly radio show, according to Lexington Herald-Leader beat writer Josh Moore. “We want to be balanced and we want to throw the football, but truth be told, if you did what we were doing from day one … he’d probably be in New York for the Heisman ceremony.”
Bowden will have a decision to make after the Wildcats’ bowl game as to whether he will return for his senior season or declare for the NFL draft. If he stays in school, his performance in 2019 should cause plenty of excitement among Kentucky football fans.
