Mark Stoops and Kentucky will put a lot of stock in the play of Devin Leary and Ray Davis this season, as the transfers are set to play big roles in the Kentucky offense.
Leary was 18-for-31 passing for 241 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Wildcats’ 44-14 win over Ball State on Saturday.
“Devin will improve a great deal. You can see the talent that he has,” Stoops said. “It’s not always on the quarterback. As we talked about, it’s protections, being on the same page, executing. We need to clean up some things. Devin will improve. He’s a heck of a football player. We just all got to do a better job.”

About Ray Davis, the Vanderbilt transfer made a splash with 14 carries for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 30-yard run. Stoops agreed with a statement in the post-game press conference that Davis stepped up.

“Yeah, he really did. I thought he had some really impressive runs, and not always the longer ones. I thought just he gave us a nice dimension of — they had some guys dropping down the hole and they’re physical and they got guys in position,” Stoops said. “They made a couple miss, and just getting those extra 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 yards sometimes is a big deal. We know he’s physical and tough and has good vision. But also he can also make people miss.”
