Mark Stoops made several significant moves this offseason to improve the offense, specifically changing the offensive coordinator from Rich Scangarello to Liam Coen, who held the same position 2 seasons ago.
But the Kentucky offensive line also left plenty to be desired last season, and the Wildcats addressed it in the transfer portal this offseason. As the Cats opened fall camp, Stoops spoke to the media on Friday morning and referenced what Coen offers.
“He has that energy and I don’t want to put any and all problems on a previous coach from a year ago,” Stoops said. “That’s on me, the areas we fell short. A lot of them are within the program and I’ll shoulder that. But with Liam, he brings an energy, a confidence.”

About those offensive line additions from the portal, Stoops said it was a clear area of need, but the impact is still to be determined. UK added Marques Cox from Northern Illinois, and Courtland Ford from Southern Cal.
“Much needed, no denying that. We needed the depth, length, bodies … Much needed and playing good,” he said. “I think it’ll take a little time. I know we’re improved. To our standard? I don’t know.”
“We have to adapt and build this team. We have to be united and build this team really quickly.” – Kentucky Head Coach Mark Stoops
