Mark Stoops will be rooting extra hard for the Kentucky Little League World Series team, as the Wildcats coach has a special connection on the roster.
Matt Schlarman, who is on the team, is the son of late UK offensive line coach John Schlarman, who died in 2020 after a battle with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer that Schlarman battled over the previous 2 years.
“Hey, Kentucky Little League World Series, good luck today versus Ohio, we’re proud of you, we’re watching you, especially little Matty Schlarman, aka Coleslaw,” Stoops said from the practice field Tuesday. “Go Kentucky!”
