Mark Stoops talks up Ole Miss RB Quinshon Judkins, praises Barion Brown and Kentucky WRs
Kentucky lost its first game of the season this past Saturday at Ole Miss. And it was a tough one.
The Wildcats turned the ball over deep in Rebels territory twice in the final 3 minutes and had what would have been a go-ahead TD pass called back by penalty with just over a minute to play.
Those were just a few of the mistakes that Kentucky made, all of which helped contribute to a 22-19 defeat.
It didn’t help that The Wildcats allowed nearly 400 total yards in the game, including 186 on the ground.
They particular had a difficult time stopping Quinshon Judkins.
The freshman running back had 15 carries for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said Wednesday that he was highly impressed with Judkins.
“Very explosive, very tough to get down, good balance, speed,” said Stops when asked about Judkins during the SEC coaches teleconference. “They have several really good backs. Obviously they can create some explosive plays with the tempo and things they do. (Judkins) has potential to be one of the big-time players in this league. He already is. Sky’s the limit for him. … He’s a complete back at a young age.”
Stoops also talked Wednesday about one of his own young offensive weapons, freshman wideout Barion Brown.
Stoops has liked what he’s seen this season from Brown and the Kentucky WRs as a group.
“He’s very, very explosive and getting better with every opportunity as he’s getting stronger, getting adapted to the speed of the SEC,” Stoops said of Brown. “Very, very talented. You see it every day. It’s nice to see a youngster out there, because they seem able to play forever. … Him and Dane (Key) both. We’ve got to continue to get Tayvion (Robinson) involved more, too.”
The Wildcats next take on South Carolina at 7:30 (ET) on Saturday night. The game will be televised by the SEC Network.
