Kentucky received an injury scare on Thursday as true freshman Dekel Crowdus suffered an apparent knee injury during practice. While details were scarce, it was feared at first to potentially be a ligament tear, potentially ending the season of the former 4-star recruit.
On Saturday, Wildcats head coach Mark Stoops updated the status of Crowdus and detailed the severity of the injury. Fortunately, the news is better than once thought as the wide receiver simply suffered a strain and could be back in “a couple of weeks”.

Crowdus, a Lexington, Ky. product, was a star at Frederick Douglass High School, just minutes from the University of Kentucky. He was considered a top 50 wide receiver recruit nationally and was ranked as the No. 3 recruit in the Bluegrass State, regardless of position. The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder pledged to Stoops and the Wildcats in May 2020 and was Stoops’ 3rd-highest-rated recruit in the class of 2021.
Crowdus and the Wildcats kick off their season against Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 4.
