Marshall Faulk, one of the most decorated running backs in NFL history, is joining Colorado’s coaching staff.
Faulk will serve as the Buffs’ running backs coach under Deion Sanders in 2025, the program announced late Thursday night. Faulk becomes the 3rd Pro Football Hall-of-Famer to be hired as a coach at Colorado, joining Sanders and Warren Sapp.
Sapp joined Colorado last year as a defensive quality control analyst. Colorado’s defense allowed just 5.07 yards per play in 2024, which ranked 33rd nationally. The Buffs ranked 115th in that stat in 2023.
As for Faulk, he joins Colorado’s coaching staff with no formal coaching experience.
What he lacks in coaching experience, Faulk makes up for with his résumé. Faulk is 12th in NFL history all-time in rushing yards with 12,279 yards. He was also named NFL MVP in 2000 and made 6 all-pro teams during his decorated career. Famously, Faulk was a member of the St. Louis Rams during the ‘Greatest Show on Turf’ era. His NFL career also included a Super Bowl XXXIV victory.
Faulk was asked about potentially joining Colorado’s coaching staff in an interview with Front Office Sports earlier this week.
“Deion is an elevator,” Faulk told Front Office Sports. “He’s going to elevate you as a person, and he’s going to force you to elevate your life. That’s what he does. He lifts people up. A lot of the times the light may look like it’s shining on him, but really he’s shining the light on somebody. Pay attention to what he does.
“We’re good friends. And whatever I can do to help him out, I’m going to do.”
Faulk played his college football at San Diego State before moving on to the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts and the Rams.
