Derek Mason was vocal about coaching staff changes following Saturday’s rivalry loss to Tennessee.
The Commodores’ first-year coach, following a winless SEC season, didn’t mince words and ensured supporters they would see a new-look lineup of assistants in 2015. He didn’t give specifics, but several outlets are reporting that changes will likely come on the defensive side of the football.
Vandy's Mason: "When changes come, we can all rest assured you will be proud and believe in the changes that I’ll make in this program"

Mason: I've taken notes all season on changes. I'm commenting anymore on those changes.

Vanderbilt switched to a 3-4 defensive alignment this season and position changes affected production. The Commodores finished 10th in the SEC in total defense at 402.1 yards allowed per game, but generated an Eastern Division-worst 13 takeaways.
On the other side of the football, offensive coordinator Karl Dorrell’s been under the microscope throughout, mainly due to Vanderbilt’s ineffective play at the quarterback position. One of Mason’s first hires, the former UCLA head coach seemed to find a spark in redshirt freshman Johnny McCrary but the player switch never yielded results.
The Commodores gave it away a conference-worst 29 times this season, 125th nationally.
