Matt Barrie, Dan Mullen suggest some wild Playoff scenarios

The college football season is nearly upon us and it figures to be one of the wildest in quite some time.
So much so that Matt Barrie and Dan Mullen are already concocting some wild scenarios for entry into the College Football Playoff.
The pair shared their takes on the 2023 campaign during The Matt Barrie Show:
Right off the bat, we’ll have a top 10 matchup between No. 5 LSU and No. 8 Florida State on Sept. 3. Barrie believes since the game is so early in the season, the loser will still be able to recover.
“The LSU-Florida State game coming up, loser’s fine,” Barrie said. “Winner’s in a great spot but the loser of that one since it’s so early and each team plays in a good enough conference to get through, I think they’re fine…”
However, Barrie adds that the contest will go a long ways in determining the seeding for the CFP because of the strength of both conferences will make for interesting resumes.
“That one game LSU-Florida State can do so much for the national championship and College Football Playoff picture early in the season come November because one of those teams is going to have a loss,” Barrie said. “That thing is going to be dissected from start to finish.”
Mullen then threw a fascinating curveball about potential chaos ensuing in the SEC title based on a particular permutation.
“Here’s the 1: 12-0 Georgia loses the SEC championship game to 11-1 LSU or 11-1 Alabama. We already said USC, Michigan both in,” Mullen said. “If LSU’s loss is to Florida State who’s an ACC champion, then who’s on the outs?…I think this is going to be a year where winning that conference title is going to have a lot to do with getting into the playoffs.”
We don’t know the outcomes yet but with all the perceived parity, it’s certainly going to be a ton of fun to watch it all unfold during this college football season.
