Linebackers and the offensive line were two areas of notable improvement from Week 1 to Week 2, according to Ole Miss coach Matt Luke.

Luke identified several areas where the Rebels showed improvement from their season-opening loss against Memphis, to last week’s win over Arkansas.

“I was really impressed with our outside linebackers,” Luke said at his weekly press conference. “That’s the unique thing, they never really know where that fourth rusher is coming from and you can drop 8.”

Jacquez Jones helped Luke reiterate his point.

“He wasn’t getting that many steps but he kept preparing,” the coach said. “He was prepared and stepped in there and was our leading tackler in the game.”

But that must continue when the Rebels face Southeast Louisiana on Saturday, a team he said has very good skill guys.

“We really have to focus on getting better,” he said. “The same improvement we saw from Week 1 to Week 2, we need to see from Week 2 to Week 3. Focus on doing the little things better and getting better in every area, because we can.”

One area Luke was impressed with was running the ball where Ole Miss had 237 yards rushing against Arkansas.

“They played better,” he said. “Still some things we can get corrected. I was glad we won the rushing battle. At the end of the game, being able to put it away, that was big.”

Luke also announced that LB MoMo Sanogo would have surgery on Tuesday and will be out 10 weeks.
