When Auburn missed a field goal attempt for a third time, with 1:14 remaining, Ole Miss had a chance to rally for a tie as the Rebels were down by six points.

But a long pass completion by John Rhys Plumlee seemed to setup Ole Miss at midfield, only before it was called back by a holding penalty against Ole Miss. Coach Matt Luke strongly disagreed with the call as he jumped down the sideline and pumped his fist at the officials.

Plumlee recovered to slowly get the ball down the field on a series of passes an QB keepers, to eventually reach the Auburn 35. But on fourth down and three, Plumlee scrambled left, but after he was nearly sacked, Plumlee was intercepted on a heave as he was being tackled. The pick helped Auburn hold on for a 20-14 victory.
