Report: Lions received trade inquiry regarding Matthew Stafford last offseason

Matthew Stafford has spent his entire professional career playing for Detroit but the Lions reportedly had an opportunity to change that last offseason.
The No. 1 overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft has appeared in 141 games for the Lions, all games in which he started for the team, and has thrown for 38,526 yards, 237 touchdowns with 129 interceptions during his time in Detroit. He’s may be the centerpiece of the franchise in Detroit but that hasn’t stopped rival teams from exploring the possibility of trading the former standout Georgia signal caller.
According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, citing multiple league sources, the Miami Dolphins reached out to the Lions to inquire about a potential trade for Stafford. Per Salguero’s report, former Miami coach Adam Gase personally reached out to Lions coach Matt Patricia regarding a potential swap.
The Lions ultimately told the Dolphins thanks but no thanks but considering Stafford has only reached on Pro Bowl and three playoff games, losing each contest, during his career in Detroit, if the Lions don’t find success in 2019 under his leadership, it isn’t out of the question that both parties may be interested in seeking fresh starts sooner rather than later.
