The past few weeks have not been kind to GG Jackson, the nation’s former No. 1 overall PF recruit who flipped his commitment from North Carolina to South Carolina ahead of the start of the season.
Jackson, who is a surefire first round NBA draft pick, has been coming off the bench for the Gamecocks the past few games. he saw just 16 minutes of action and scored 2 points in a loss to Vanderbilt Tuesday evening.
Following the game, veteran point guard Meechie Johnson stuck up for Jackson, recognizing the pressure that is on the young talent. Here’s what he had to say:
“It’s so much on his plate, so many people talking telling him do this, do that,” Johnson said. “He wants to go out there and he got expectations for himself being a hometown kid, being the No. 1 player in the country. It’s a learning experience, man. He’s supposed to still be in high school and you go out there and you just want to perform. Sometimes he’s not doing that and it’s okay. We’re going to be his teammates, we’re going to keep riding with him til the end because that’s all we can do.”
You can hear the rest of Johnson’s comments below:
“That’s my little brother man. I’m just trying to do the best I can to lift him up.”
Love this answer from Meechie Johnson (@MeechieJohnson0 ) about making sure he’s there for GG Jackson following Jackson’s 3rd straight game of coming off the bench.@WLTX | #Gamecocks pic.twitter.com/46ceTfMeYO
