Bryce Young is perhaps the most talented quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft class. His pocket presence is top of the line, he has a good arm and incredible accuracy, paired with an ability to make something out of nothing that you just can’t teach. To some, he’s the easy No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft and a top prize for any team needing a franchise quarterback.

But not everyone is convinced Young is a true QB1 at the NFL level. Mel Kiper Jr, an NFL Draft expert, has some worries about the former Alabama signal caller.

Kiper is concerned about Young’s size against the NFL’s physicality. At 6-foot, 194 pounds, Kiper is not sure Young can withstand the countless hits quarterbacks in the NFL take.

“Holding up physically is the key concern,” Kiper said. “You saw him injured this past year at Alabama. He only started two years, right? Backed up Mac Jones. The NFL’s a different entity. Quarterbacks go down, Adam [Schefter] covers it every week, injuries to somebody. They’re bigger, stronger, more physically imposing than Bryce Young. Holding up, definitely, I put the bar at 195. 195 or higher, for me, is QB1. Less than 195, he’s QB2.”

Regardless of Kiper’s thoughts, Bryce Young is going to be a top 5 pick in the upcoming draft. The Texans, Colts and Panthers are all going to be gunning for the top 5 to draft one of Young, CJ Stroud or Kentucky’s Will Levis.

As for where Young ends up, it’s hard to say. We’ll know for sure when the NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 27.
