Mel Tucker has issued a statement on the tunnel incident that occurred after Michigan State’s 29-7 loss against rival Michigan.
It appeared that Michigan State players teamed up on a Michigan player, punching and kicking and shoving him after the game, which caused Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh to allege assault.
Tucker took full responsibility for the actions of his players.

“As Spartans our program has a responsibility to uphold the highest level of sportsmanship. While emotions were very high at the conclusion of our rivalry game at Michigan Stadium, there is no excuse for behavior that puts our team or our opponents at risk,” Tucker said. “In complete cooperation with law enforcement, the Big Ten Conference and MSU and UM leadership, we will evaluate the events in Ann Arbor and take swift and appropriate action.”
Harbaugh voiced outrage after the game.
“Two of our players were assaulted. I saw the one video, it’s 10-on-one. Pretty bad,” Harbaugh said. “I’m going to let our Athletic Director, Warde Manuel, address it with the authorities.”
Michigan State was on a 2-game winning streak in the series prior to Saturday’s loss.
