Is Florida redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Richardson looking to lay claim to the starting quarterback role for the Gators?
Emory Jones began the season as the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart with Kyle Trask now in the NFL. Despite a 35-14 win over FAU where he registered a touchdown, he recorded just 117 yards passing and threw 2 interceptions as part of a 17-of-27 day.
Richardson stole the show, though, with 7 rushing attempts for 160 yards and a long touchdown while going 3-of-8 for 40 yards.
Dan Mullen made it clear that Jones will remain the starting quarterback for now, but Richardson isn’t about to go down without a fight. On his 1st pass of the day in place of Jones, he connected with Jacob Copeland for a 75-yard touchdown as the Gators took a 14-3 lead with 4-and-a-half minutes remaining in the 1st quarter.
