Miami was whipped at home by Michigan State on Saturday, 38-17, continuing the Hurricanes’ struggles under Manny Diaz, whose team is now 1-2 on the season.

Monday, on XL Primetime, one of the program’s all-time greats didn’t hold back when asked about the current state of once was the dominant program in college football.

Miami Hall of Famer and former NFL Pro Bowler Leon Searcy said the program was “D. E. A. D.”:

Added the former No. 1 draft choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers, “No toughness, no grit, no get-after-it, no physicalness, on both sides of the ball, offensively and defensively.”

Especially upsetting to Searcy was the current Miami program’s obsession with style over substance.

“If I see another turnover chain, pulling out the rings, when you’re down by 20 points, I’m going to light the damn suitcase on fire,” Searcy said.
