Miami made another big-time statement with a blowout win on Saturday night.

After a brief weather delay, the Hurricanes blasted Ball State 62-0 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Cam Ward, amongst the early-season favorites for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, had another big game with 346 yards and 5 touchdowns through the air.

Miami was also dominant on the ground in this one. Ajay Allen, Jordan Lyle and Mark Fletcher Jr. combined to rush for 228 yards on just 24 carries. As a team, Miami averaged 7.35 yards per carry against Ball State.

As you might expect considering the shutout, the Cardinals had trouble moving the ball in this one. Ball State averaged just 2.2 yards per play on the night and picked up only 9 first downs for the entire game.

This is Miami’s third consecutive blowout win, but the first shutout for the Canes in 2024. They’ve won their 3 games so far this season by a combined score of 159 to 26.

Miami still has to prove it can keep it up during ACC play, but the Canes are building the start of a really solid College Football Playoff case. Even if the Canes have a slip-up in conference play, it’s possible they could earn an at-large berth in the CFP if they continue to play this well for most of the year.

Miami still has one more nonconference game before getting into the meat of its ACC schedule. The Canes will host South Florida next weekend.
