Micah Shrewsberry is not thrilled with the support of Notre Dame fans in the middle of a rough season for his program. Actually, that’s putting things a bit mildly.

Following a home 75-60 loss to Louisville that dropped the Fighting Irish to 11-14 overall (5-9 in the ACC), Shrewsberry went after his fanbase for a small showing. The head coach claimed he saw more Louisville fans in Notre Dame’s home venue, a fact he described as “embarrassing” for everyone involved.

“We’re going to get this thing rolling. I sat there and watched more Louisville fans in here than Notre Dame people, and that’s embarrassing,” said Shrewsberry. “That’s embarrassing for me, cause I’m the head coach here.”

Shrewsberry didn’t stop there, admitting he got the program into “this predicament” but also told the fans who have stopped supporting the Fighting Irish not to come back when things get turned around. It’s a bold declaration for any coach, and it rarely works out well when you scream against your own fanbase.

“And yes, I got us in this predicament. But don’t come back when we’re winning, cause we’re turning this around man. You better believe that,” Shrewsberry declared. “Everybody that gave up on me, believe it: write this date down and believe it.”

It’s not hard to see why Notre Dame fans have become frustrated with Shrewsberry. After an impressive turnaround at Penn State, the head coach was brought to Notre Dame to turn things around but is just 24-34 to begin his tenure with the Fighting Irish.

We’ll see if he can turn things around for Notre Dame, but it will be interesting to see if he gets the fan support he’s looking for after going after those same fans.
