Texas safety Michael Taaffe is wearing a special tie to SEC Media Days on Tuesday in Atlanta.

The tie contains the initials of victims who were killed in a Texas flood last week. More specifically, the tie honors 27 Camp Mystic campers and counselors who passed away as a result of the flood.

Here’s a closer look at the tie, via Anwar Richardson:

It’s a touching tribute from Taaffe, who is entering his senior season with the Longhorns. An Austin native, Taaffe’s Westlake High School is located less than 150 miles away from Camp Mystic.

Taaffe spoke to reporters about why he chose to honor the victims in this manner. He said he hopes the counselors who died in the flood trying to save campers will be remembered as “heroes.”

“They weren’t going to have to take care of anything but maybe having the flu or maybe a stubbed toe,” he said. “And they wake up in the middle of the night and all of a sudden, they’ve got to save lives. I want to try to shed light on … how they should be remembered. They should be remembered as heroes.”

Taaffe is one of three Texas players representing the university at SEC Media Days in Atlanta on Tuesday. The Longhorns will make their season debut against Ohio State on Aug. 30.
