Michigan State’s Josh Butler allowed to celebrate Senior Day with his dogs after death of both parents

Michigan State CB Josh Butler has had a rough few years while attending Michigan State.

During the course of his college career, he’s lost his father to a heart attack and his mother to Stage 4 breast cancer. That’s a lot for anyone to handle, let alone a college kid.

With no parents to walk him out for Senior Day festivities on Saturday against Maryland, Butler was allowed to walk with his dogs, Roxy and Remi. Though there is a lot of tragedy behind this moment, it was also quite beautiful:

While Butler would probably give anything to have had even one of his parents there for his special moment, he honors them by wearing his dad’s crematory tag around his neck and by having a pink ribbon tattooed on his shoulder.

And, as anyone with pets can tell you, they’re part of the family, too. Good for Michigan State for allowing Butler to celebrate his Senior Day this way.
