Texas A&M fans made their presence felt in South Bend last Saturday, and head coach Mike Elko didn’t miss it.

“Thank you to everyone you went to South Bend,” Elko said at the Houston Touchdown Club. “It was a very maroon crowd. I’ve never played a game at Kyle Field where the visiting fans take up as much room as our fans did there. The coolest thing was hearing the eruption on the touchdown.”

The Aggies’ 41-40 win over then-No. 8 Notre Dame was a season-defining moment, boosting their SEC title hopes and putting Texas A&M at 3-0 and No. 10 in the AP poll.

Even with 13 penalties marring an otherwise dominant performance offensively, A&M showed it can execute in high-pressure moments far from Kyle Field in College Station. And while the players certainly deserve a ton of credit for the win, Aggies fans turned Notre Dame into a sea of maroon. That’s an energy they can’t afford to lose in upcoming road appearances at Arkansas (Oct. 18), LSU (Oct. 25), and then Missouri (Nov. 8).

The Aggies get a much-needed break in Week 4, and will host No. 22 Auburn on Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m. ET, hoping to remain in the nation’s top 10.
