Former ESPN host and football analyst Mike Golic made a bold statement on the “College Sports Now” podcast. He says he thinks the Big Ten East is better than the SEC West.

“The Big Ten East is better than the SEC West,” Golic said, per Erik Hall of the Mississippi Clarion Ledger.

“People will say, ‘Well, the SEC is stronger all the way through and they beat one another up,'” Golic said, “Well, you know what, it changes through the years. I mean, Jim Harbaugh’s got it going in Michigan, (Mel) Tucker in Michigan State.”

Both the Big Ten East and SEC West, have four ranked teams. The teams from the Big Ten East that are ranked are Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Michigan.

The SEC West has Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and Arkansas all ranked. The highest-ranked team from the Big Ten East is Penn State at No. 4, while the SEC West’s highest-ranked team is Alabama who has been the No. 1 team in the country since the start of the season with SEC East-leading Georgia at No. 2.

Golic acknowledged that Alabama and Georgia have been the top 2 teams, but maintained his stance about the Big Ten.

“The Big Ten is having a year,” Golic said. “As far as those divisions in those conferences, I would go to the Big Ten on this, but I will also say this, Alabama and Georgia — it is Alabama and Georgia and then everybody else a couple of rungs below. I cannot wait, if it all holds, for them to play in the SEC Championship Game and then both of them will make the playoffs — again, all holds.”
