Mike Gundy peppered with ‘fraudulent calls’ during Big 12 Coaches Teleconference
Jalen McCleskey’s decision to transfer from Oklahoma State set off a bizarre chain of events that took an even weirder turn Monday.
During the Big 12 Coaches Teleconference, Cowboys coach Mike Gundy was peppered with what appeared to be prank calls in response to reports that he threatened to cut off media access to players if they asked about McCleskey’s transfer.

Mike Gundy portion of teleconference ends with Big 12 spokesperson apologizing for “fraudulent” callers. Gundy: “It was no problem, we have a lot of fraudulent people in the world.” Someone called from Stillwater Tribune, not an actual newspaper, asking why have freedom of press

There was considerable backlash toward Gundy’s alleged threats of a media ban, but this is a strange method of retaliation. It’s unclear who, if anyone, coordinated the calls or distributed the number for the teleconference, but Monday’s incident surely won’t help Gundy’s apparently icy relationship with local media.
