Mike Gundy was sweating bullets on Saturday as Arkans had Gundy’s Oklahoma State program with its back against the wall.
In Saturday’s matchup, the Razorbacks raced out to a 21-7 halftime lead and scored the first 14 points of the game. The Cowboys would eventually answer back and scored 18 4th-quarter points to force overtime before winning the game in double OT.
Gundy held his press conference to begin the week on Monday, and one reporter provided an interesting question for the head coach. According to the reporter, Oklahoma State’s defensive performance did not look as bad when rewatching the tape as it looked live.
Gundy did not concur, calling the reporter a homer because Arkansas’ receivers were in fact running free time and time again. As the media contingent chuckled, Gundy said press conferences are designed for honesty.
“Well, you’re a homer is the first part, because they were running wide open,” Gundy said in response to the reporter. “You’re wanting to make it look better and honestly they were running wide open. It’s alright, we’re honest here. There’s no reason anybody should come to these press conferences if we’re going to bullshit each other.”
Gundy went on to say the silver lining of the situation is that Oklahoma State’s issues are “fixable.” He went on to praise the Razorbacks for having better schemes while also admitting the Cowboys were out of position throughout the contest.
“So almost 2 wrongs don’t make a right, it was ‘This is not good and this is not good, so now the whole things not good’,” Gundy explained.
Arkansas QB Taylen Green also drew high marks from Gundy with the head coach blown away by Green’s length and physical tools. Green threw for 416 yards and rushed for 61 more in a dynamic performance that ultimately came up just short.
