Mike Gundy reminisces on Bedlam memories: ‘Bosworth spit in my face and I spit in his’
Mike Gundy has been in his fair share of Bedlam games in his day.
Gundy has been the head coach at Oklahoma State since 2004 and noted how the rivalry used to mean more at Monday’s press conference. There are no current plans to continue the rivalry after the Sooners leave for the SEC next season.
Gundy played quarterback at Oklahoma State in the 1980s and recalled spitting in Brian Bosworth’s face and vice versa.
“It didn’t bother me because we didn’t have phones and social media, but it was a rivalry then,” said Gundy. “Bosworth spit in my face I spit in his face. I was actually a rivalry, right?”
Gundy had to figure out if it was worth getting into a fight with Bosworth and other Oklahoma players out partying in the same city before the games.
“The summer before my sophomore year I would go to parties and they would say, ‘Bosworth and Miggliazo are here.’ So, I had to make a decision where are we gonna have confrontation here and who was with me,” said Gundy. “With those guys I can kick him in the shin and run like hell, but I’m not dumb.”
Mike Gundy said Bedlam used to be more a rivalry, back before social media.
